John Brown Narrative
John was born at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital. He moved to Elmvale at an early age and attended both Elmvale Public School and Elmvale District High School. John lived and worked in Elmvale for the rest of his life.
John loved sports his whole life. Growing up, he played minor hockey in Elmvale. He was on the 1964 - 65 Alex Currie Pontiac Juvenile Hockey Championship team that was inducted into the Springwater Sports Heritage Hall of Fame in 2014. He also played Junior "C" hockey in Penetanguishene. In the summer, John played Fastball for the Elmvale Merchants.
John loved his community. He loved coaching, refereeing, and being a team or league executive. Also, John sponsored various teams. He had the ability to convince other people that the team or league could be a financial and competitive success. He was very organized and could talk to players, coaches, managers, and sponsors.
John was dedicated to his community his entire life. After his sporting career, John became involved in municipal politics.
