1964-65 Alex Currie Pontiac Juvenile Hockey Championship Team Narrative

The “1964-65 Elmvale Alex Currie Pontiac Juvenile Team” has been one of the best Elmvale Minor Hockey Teams ever.

During the 1964-65 season the team did not lose a single game and many of the games were against teams from larger centres and higher categories.  The team was able to defeat the Penetang Junior “C” team and the Division “A” champs from Orillia.

Word of the team’s success spread and the squad was invited to attend the 32-team Milton Juvenile Tournament but in a higher “C” division.  At the time Elmvale was still involved in OMHA playoffs but the coaching and management staff decided that they could fit the tournament into their schedule.

On April 7, 1965 they were still in the tournament but had to play in the OHMA playoffs in Plattsville that night at 8:00 pm.  The team defeated Bolton 8-2 at 9:30 am and Milton 6-4 at 5:30 pm to win the “C” division championship.

Without removing their equipment, they boarded a bus to Plattsville making the game in time for the 8:00 pm start.  Elmvale won the game 7-2 to win the OMHA championship.

The“1964-65 Elmvale Alex Currie Pontiac Juvenile Team” had won two championships in one day.
