Narrative:

The Barrie Baycats baseball team was granted league (IBL) entry in 1999, on the condition that they would be able to play by 2001. This was a monumental task; they needed an owner, a board of directors, and a stadium among other things. The city of Barrie provided a place to play, but the task of building a stadium fell to the owner. Unfortunately, the original owner declared bankruptcy in 2000. This is when Gary Inskeep, Paul Marley, David Mills and Gary Calvert stepped up. With only seven months until opening day, they used their incredible business savvy and communication skills to convince businesses to prioritize stadium construction. Paul and David managed to create a stadium with a diamond, clubhouse, dressing rooms, and seating for 1500 spectators.  As Vice President and co-developer, Paul was visible at 20 year’s worth of games ---all played within the boundaries of Springwater township and to the delight of local fans. The Baycats won their league championship 6 years in a row; a feat that would never have happened without such incredible hard work and determination.

Beyond the Baycats, Paul and the Marley bothers were Springwater sport enthusiasts and talented hockey and ball players---Paul’s 1977 Fastball team was inducted into SSHHoF at its first Induction Ceremony in 2014. As a member of the Elmvale Curling Club, Paul served for a term as its president in 1984. He also coached minor hockey and baseball teams in the Elmvale/Phelpston area. Paul’s company was a Longstanding and Committed sponsor for many local teams and events.
