Walter Craig Highlights
1926
♦ Tip Top Tailors of Toronto offered him a job in Toronto as catcher for their Championship Team. He refused so that he could play
with his friends in Midhurst.
1930
♦ Midhurst Softball Team were Champions of the League.
♦ Walter together with his partner Hunter Russell won the Ontario Championship in Crokinole. Their keenest competitors were
Morley and Eddy Schandlen, also from Midhurst.
1936
♦ Walter started curling in 1936. He organized his own rink and was skip. Other members of his team were Bob Peacock, Roy McVittie,
Ab Maw and El Crawford. They won many bonspiels throughout Simcoe County, and he proudly displayed his many trophies and
prizes in their homes.
1952
♦ Walter Craig, Howard Burbidge, Bob Peacock and skip Larry Hart were winners of Thornton Bonspiel in three extra ends before a
winner was declared.
1956
♦ Skip Walter Craig, Frank Hargreaves, Dr. Ross Turnbull, Bill Johnston and alternate Dr. R. G. Taylor were winners of Labatt Trophy
(1st Schedule at Barrie Curling Club).
1962
♦ Skip Walter Craig, Howard Chantler, Emerson Webb and Charles Hurtibese captured Hudson Trophy in Midland Curling Bonspiel.
1968
♦ Team skipped by Walter, his son William, Ell Crawford and _____ won 23rd Annual Orillia Curling Bonspiel.
1989
♦ Walter was inducted into the Vespra Recreation Hall of Fame as one of Midhurst’s greatest sports supporters.
2014
♦ Inducted into the Springwater Sports Heritage Hall of Fame
