Trevor Knight Narrative
With such a plethora of Special Olympic medals under his belt, there can be no doubt that Trevor is an extremely talented athlete. It can be argued however, that what makes Trevor such an incredible man is his level of compassion and respect. At the 2024 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Calgary, Trevor took home the silver medal in the 1K cross country event due to helping a struggling teammate finish the race; Trevor helped him finish first and win the gold.
Playing hockey, Trevor will pass the puck to a teammate for them to score and feel good about themselves instead of scoring himself. He gives way to faster skiers to follow the etiquette of Nordic skiing. Trevor is known as a great roommate when travelling with a team; he always makes sure that his roommates are taken care of. He is well respected by all athletes, coaches, and volunteers.
Trevor has Down Syndrome, and is severely hearing and visually impaired. He has clearly not let these obstacles stop him from becoming an athlete worthy of so many accolades. In fact, he volunteers for Special Olympic fundraisers, the YMCA, and at the Early Years Centre, proving that he is as capable as they come. He takes young people under his wing and teaches them that they can do anything. He loves to promote the Special Olympics and show off his well-earned medals.
