Terry Martin Highlights
1964-1972: Played Novice through Midget in the Barrie Minor Hockey Association.
1972-1975: Drafted from Barrie Midgets in the 3rd round of the 1972 OHA Junior “A” draft by London and Terry was a strong junior player for three seasons scoring 93 goals and 196 points.
1975: Selected by Buffalo in the 1975 NHL Entry Draft where he played his first NHL game, splitting the season between the sabres’ affiliates in Charlotte and Hershey.
1978-79: Terry played with Buffalo throughout the season including time played in Hershey with the Bears totalling 16 games.
1979: Selected in the 1979 Expansion Draft by the Quebec Nordiques playing 26 games for the organization, split among Quebec, Syracuse and New Brunswick. Terry was dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs in December, 1979.
1980-1984: Terry’s most industrious NHL years were spent with the Toronto Maple Leafs, the team of his childhood dreams where he established himself as a solid two-way player-capable checker with excellent speed and good offensive ability. He put together back-to-back 20+ goal seasons for the Leafs organization in 1980-81 and 1981-82.
1984-85: Claimed by the Edmonton Oilers in the waiver draft before being traded again, to the Minnesota North Stars in January 1985. A shoulder injury prevented him from finishing the season with the stars, and he spent 1985-86 in Springfield with the Indians, Minnesota’s AHL farm club.
1986-87: Re-acquired by Toronto and assigned to to their own AHL affiliate, the Newmarket Saints where he finished his career as a playing assistant coach.
1987-89: Terry’s passion for hockey has kept him in the game in various capacities beginning with a two year head coaching stint with the OHL Marlboros (1987-89.
1989-1995 he spent six seasons as an assistant coach with the Rochester Americans and one season as an assistant with the Buffalo Sabres in 1995-96.
1996-98: Pro scout for Buffalo where he was appointed Buffalo’s Director of Pro Scouting.
2006-present: Colorado Avalanche pro scout.
1998- Inducted into the Barrie Sports Hall of Fame
Terry has had a long career in hockey first as a player, then coach and currently is a pro scout.
