Robert (Bob) Storey Narrative

Robert (Bob) Storey began curling in 1971, and in just a year, worked his way up to skipping the team. He took courses on ice making in order to improve the surface at the Elmvale Curling Club. Many diligent hours went into cleaning and prepping the ice for the sport he loved; he was always available to help. He entered several bonspiels and won multiple trophies in his first few years playing the sport.

In 1986 and again in 1987 Bob was honoured to join the well-known and celebrated Russ Howard Team that had been invited, as renowned guests, to participate in a bonspiel in Scotland.

Though he was always teased about not having all of his fingers on the rock (due to missing two of them), it never appeared to effect his ability to curl at the highest levels.  Bob coached his Junior team to the Ontario championships as well as winning zones 32 times as a player. His team reached the Ontario championships 10 times, and his senior team with the Canadian Legion made it to the Canadians 3 times.

Eventually, although the curling passion remained, Bob’s excruciating arthritis forced him to step away, as a competitor, from the sport he enjoyed and excelled at for many years
