Leo Belcourt Highlights
1950’s
♦ Leo began his fastball career with brother Lou, playing with Edenvale Juniors , a member of the Vespra Fastball League.
♦ After his Junior eligibility expired Leo pitched for the Edenvale Senior Team, a member of the Vespra Fastball League.
1962
♦ Leo joined the Elmvale Merchants of the North Simcoe League playing with brother Lou.
1963
♦ Pitched for the Elmvale Palace Hotel team when they entered the Barrie Senior League. Joining Dan McHugh they formed one of the top pitching duos in Ontario.
1964
♦ Leo and Dan led Elmvale Palace Hotel to the Barrie and District Senior championship, a great achievement for a 2nd year team playing in one of the top Ontario Fastball Leagues.
1965
♦ Leo and Dan led Elmvale in back to back championships when they defeated Lakeview Dairy in the league finals.
1966
♦ Pitched all three games as Elmvale won the annual Hillsdale Ball Tournament . This win was noteworthy and a great accomplishment. Elmvale, led by Leo’s stellar pitching defeated Richmond Hill Dynes, who later won the World Championship and featured world renowned pitcher, Bob Domik.
1967
♦ When Elmvale Palace Hotel withdrew from the Senior League to join the Barrie Int. League, Leo continued his senior career by joining Lakeview Dairy, thus initiating several years of team and personal successes.
1968-1976
♦ As a member of the Lakeview Dairy Team and Beatrice Foods he won seven championships in a nine year span in the prestigious Barrie and District Men’s Fastball league.
!971 -72-73-75
♦ Voted M.V.P. league award on four occasions.
1971
♦ Threw a nine inning no hit game against Angus in a Barrie Major League playoff game.
1975
♦ Struck out 26 batters in a 12 inning O.A.S.A game against Toronto Plating.
1975
♦ Including league play, tournaments and O.A.S.A. play downs Leo threw five no hit games two of which were consecutive nine inning no hitters.
♦ Leo also achieved the league’s M.V.P pitching award.
♦ Led Barrie Lakeview Dairy to the O.A.S.A. Int. A championship by defeating Sault Ste Marie in the playoff between Northern and Southern Ont. It was the first O.A.S.A. championship for Barrie in forty years.
1976
♦ Pitched all five games for Beatrice Foods in their Barrie Labour Day Tournament win. This tournament is of the highest calibre featuring several of Ontario’s top level teams.
1978
♦ Pitched 23 innings of a 26 inning Barrie Senior and District Major League playoff game against Bradford Queens Hotel.
1980
♦ Playing for American Hotel , the Barrie team emerged victorious in the annual Labour Day Tournament. In one game Leo beat Mark Smith a world renowned Nova Scotia pitcher imported to play for Newmarket Rays. Mark was later inducted into the Nova Scotia Hall of Fame.
1980-81
♦ Pitching for Barrie American Hotel ,they won in successive years the prestigious Toronto Beaches Major Fastball League championship.
1995
♦ Leo was inducted into the Barrie Hall of Fame in the team category.
2016
Inducted into The Springwater Sports Heritage Hall of Fame in both the athlete and team categories.
