Springwater Connection: Matt was raised just outside of the Village of Elmvale, Ontario and
     has developed a strong appreciation and dedication to his community. As Matt grew
     older he knew Springwater was where he wanted to settle down. In 2018 he purchased
     his first home in the Village of Elmvale, where he lives with his finance Danielle and dog
     Volt.

Narrative:

Matt is a 24 year-old race car driver residing in Elmvale, Ontrio and a Graduate of the Automotive Business School of Canada powered by Georgian College.
Matt competes in the Formula Vee Challenge Cup open wheel racing series, which is designed to be inexpensive while promoting driver development. Matt is also proud to be partnered with the "Laps for Muscular Dystrophy" Campaign in support of Muscular Dystrophy Canada.

Matt showed a passion for motosports from the beginning. Born in a small town called Phelpston, he was introduced by his grandfather (Gilbert) to the Innisfil Karting Track for a day and the bug caught on. After his first trip, Matt found himself at the track almost every weekend of the summer, striving to improve his race craft and fuel his passion.
Matt began karting at tracks across Ontario and his extremely passionate love of the sport allowed him to be successful with hs endeavors. In 2012, the Canadian Karting Club was offering a sponsorship deal with FEL.drives.com to compete for an entry level fully sponsored ride in the Canadian Formula 1200 series. Matt was awarded this great opportunity and found hinself thriving in the new series.

With several podiums and close finishes under his belt, Matt won his first Formula Vee Challenge Cup Series race in 2015 at the Pittsburg International Raceway. In 2015 Matt was the official test driver for the WutFun Racing in the teams Mazda Miata during the Canadian Touring Car Championship Series. Later that year, Garwood earned a second consecutive Formula Vee Challenge Cup Championship (2016).

Interesting Facts:

     ♦ In August 2015 Matt was announced the 2015-2016 Canadian National Exhibition
         Ambassator of Fairs.
     ♦ His fellow Ambassadors at the 2015 CNE also selected Matt as the Most Cogenial
         award recipient.
     ♦ Matt spent the following year travelling to fairs across Ontario representing the CNE
         and the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies (OAAS) fairs.
     ♦ Since the Canadian National Exhibition, Matt has continued following his passion for
        all things Ambassador Program related.
     ♦ He is the Co-Chair for the OAAS District 5 Ambassador program, and a Flos
         Agricultural Society Director.
