Leo Belcourt Narrative

Leo was born and raised on the 3rd concession of Flos Township. His elementary education was attained at Vigo and St. Patrick’s, Phelpston and his secondary at Elmvale District High School. Except for a brief time living in Barrie he has spent the entirety of his life residing in what is now Springwater Township.

During their youth Leo and Lou honed their skills on the family farm pitching and catching to each other for hours on end. Dad was constantly fixing broken boards on the family farm shed.

Leo’s rapid rise from his early days with Edenvale to being recognized as one of the premiere pitchers in Ontario was amazing and the story of a talented  player. A truly humble man he was always ready to deflect credit for his success to his team mates. In reality most of his success was due to his pitching arsenal, namely a blazing fastball, an awesome rise, a devastating changeup, combined with great control and a positive attitude.

While he played many years with his brother Lou, Leo also valued the opportunity and privelege of briefly playing Senior calibre ball with his brother Ed and his nephew Brent McLean, an outstanding pitcher in his own right.

Leo, a retired electrician resides in Minesing with his wife Bernice. An avid outdoorsman he enjoys fishing and hunting. Leo enjoys golfing and was a competent curler for many years. His son Shawn has succeeded him into the electrical business. Leo and Bernice enjoy spending time with their grandsons,  Mac and Mitch, Shawn and Kelly’s two sons.

Leo is truly appreciative and thankful for the great honour of being inducted into the Springwater Heritage Sports Hall of Fame.
